I can relate to this picture. Been there done that. In Japan. More than half a century ago.

@olivier and mike - no worries at all, i think there's a nearby soldier station in the area hence there are soldiers walking

What are the tents for on above the sidewalk? Is it to shade from the sun or is there another purpose?

hi isadoro, those tents serves as a shade for the sun and rain used by seafarers looking for a job, if you'll notice the booths on the right (see yesterdays photo) this street becomes busy during weekdays
