ma'am this aint a church

...this is the Manila City Hall's Clock Tower.
Was riding the LRT and i was sitting beside a family, from time to time the mother would point out buildings, and other point of interest to her daughter... when we're approaching the city hall, the mother blurted out to the kid that the tower is a church! I was shocked! and i thought every Manileño... that EVERY filipino knows the city hall... that it IS a manila landmark aside of course from Jose Rizal's monument at Luneta Park.

I suppose the mother didn't know what it was and to her it looked like a church. I would have used that answer myself except that you said it was the city hall.

Well, I have to confess I thought the same when I visited the Philippines for the first time.
Is there something inside that tower? Or just a staircase leading to the top?

ok given that it looked like a chuch and they could be balikbayan or whatever but still i feel sad over the fact that some filipinos doesnt know this very recongnizable landmark!

the tower is really beautiful, especially at night. i've posted a couple of photos already of this tower in this blog.

i'm not really sure if the plan of making the tower a tourist attraction pushed through, it was planned by the former mayor atienza, though i must commend him for fixing the clocks, if you'll notice they are synchronized now.

Nice shot. Where were you positioned? And what time did this take place?

I've had shots of City Hall but not this close.
