theme day: lines

what a great day to start the month of october, its a holiday here in the Philippines because the government declared today a regular holiday in observance of the feast of end of Ramadan but had miscalculated the date LOL! anyways our muslim brothers celebrated the Eid ul-Fitr yesterday, thanks anyways that we have an extra holiday today.

It is another theme day for the City Daily Photo community, and for the month of october it is all about lines.  my photo is from my archive and shows the coconut trees lining manila bay, twas a great afternoon sunset view (cant go out today since we do have a typhoon named Pablo - Metro Manila is now under public storm warning signal No. 2, meaning winds of 60-100 kph.)

Have a safe and eventful day everyone, do check out the other participants of the theme day. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

rajah sulayman

The statue of Rajah Sulayman is located in front of the Malate Church at its namesake Plaza near the huge fountain at baywalk along Manila Bay.

Rajah Sulayman was a native Muslim king who, together with Rajah Matanda and Rajah Lakandula, the king of the Tondo area, ruled a large population of Tagalogs in the southern part of the Pasig River and the city of Manila during the 16th century.

this is your day

"Live this day as if it will be your last. Remember that you will only find “tomorrow” on the calendars of fools. Forget yesterday’s defeats and ignore the problems of tomorrow. This is it. Doomsday. All you have. Make it the best day of your year. The saddest words you can ever utter are, “If I had my life to live over again…”Take the baton, now. Run with it! This is your day!" ~ Og Mandino

watching people

I love watching people... scary? don't worry i'm harmless and i dont bite hehehe.

Caught this guy texting while holding the hands of the statue of Evilio Javier (a martyr for democracy during the Marcos regime) and i just can't help but take this photo. But the flash of my camera caught his attention and he said "Uy ginagawa mo akong model ha" (You're making me a model huh) and he proceed to chat with me and take a look at his picture :) thankfully he was okay and didnt get mad at me.

Sometimes i do ask permission to take a person's photo, but more often than not I just snap away... how about you, do you ask for permission first?

vendors along baywalk

Pinoys are entrepreneurs by nature, give him a small capital and he'll make a business out of that... sometimes luck and hardwork pays off but at other times it's just a means to live and put food in the table.

First photo: A mango vendor, he'll do the peeling for you and slice the mangoes, complete with bagoong or salt whichever you prefer (aren't we lucky to have mangoes all year round?. At his back is the vendor of sorbetes (dirty ice cream), very different in taste with commercial ice creams but delicious too. If you want to get rid of cough, go out and buy sorbetes. :)

A modern ice cream vendor.

This one sells, chicharon, peanuts, kropek. Yummy!

greatest show

They may have closed down the bars along baywalk but it didn't stopped people coming here at Manila Bay... after all, the greatest show is still here - the sunset.

wedding by the bay

I was taking pictures of anything and everything at Baywalk while waiting for the sunset when suddenly a van full of professional photographers arrived (5 photographers and 3 person who have a video cam with them).. complete with their top of the line cameras (my point and shoot camera got embarrassed LOL) and then followed by a newly wed couple in their jaguar, they had a photoshoot by the bay and of course a photo opportunity i can't resist. I took tons of photos of them (i only pick two photos to show here)and the bride is so beautiful.

You cant blame them for wanting to have a photo session by the baywalk because the sunset here is really amazing, it was just that it was cloudy that afternoon, but had they waited a bit longer it'll be really perfect. I'll show you the magnificent sunset tomorrow.
