Blood compact or Sandugo is an old ritual where two people drink each other's blood as part of a native custom to seal a friendship, a pact or treaty, or to validate an agreement.

The Sandugo was performed between the Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna of Bohol on March 16, 1565 in the Philippines to seal their friendship as part of the native custom. A few drops of blood drawn from a small incision in the arm of the two chiefs were placed in a separate cups containing wine, and in the presence of their followers, each chief drank the potion containing the blood of the other. During this period of colonization, a bond was sealed in accordance with native practice, the first treaty of friendship and alliance between Spaniards and Filipinos.

The Sandugo Festival is being celebrated annually in Bohol. The main highlights of the Sandugo Festival are the colorful street parade with a street dancing competition and the re-enactment of the blood compact between Datu Sikatuna and Miguel López de Legazpi.

Still sharing with you the wonders of Bohol - introducing the very cute tarsier. it is often called the smallest primate, its huge eyes are adorable and this nocturnal animal is so small.

Tarsiers are small animals with enormous eyes and very long hind limbs. Their feet have extremely elongated tarsus bones, from which the animals get their name. The head and body range from 10 to 15 cm in length, but the hind limbs are about twice this long (including the feet), and they also have a slender tail from 20 to 25 cm long. Their fingers are also elongated, with the third finger being about the same length as the upper arm. Most of the digits have nails, but the second and third toes of the hind feet bear claws instead, which are used for grooming. chocolate hills

I know this is a blog about Manila but please allow me to share with you some of the scenic spots at Bohol (i've mentioned before that i went away on a vacation, this is where i've been). Bohol is an island province of the Philippines located in the Central Visayas region and is famous for the Chocolate Hills, considered as the 8th wonder of the world.

They look like giant mole hills, or as some say, women's breasts. The chocolate hills consist of no less than 1268 hills, they are very uniform in shape and mostly between 30 and 50 metres high. They are covered with grass, which, at the end of the dry season, turns chocolate brown. From this color, the hills derive their name. It actually looks like hershey's kisses to me.

Legend has it that the hills came into existance when two giants threw stones and sand at each other in a fight that lasted for days. When they were finally exhausted, they made friends and left the island, but left behind the mess they made. For the more romantically inclined is the tale of Arogo, a young and very strong giant who fell in love with an ordinary mortal girl called Aloya. After she died, the giant Arogo cried bitterly. His tears then turned into hills, as a lasting proof of his grief.

But according to this geological monument, the unique land form known as the Chocolate Hills of Bohol was formed ages ago by the uplift of coral deposits and the action of rainwater and erosion.

i love sunset

i'd often mentioned here that i love sunset and i'll never get tired of seeing the sun sinking in the horizon and leaving us with lovely colors... i hope you wont get tired of seeing more sunset photos in the next few days... i'm just so glad that we have magnificent sunset here in manila :) yeah, all sunset photos you're seeing are from manila bay, this particular series was taken from the manila yacht club area
